Animals Australia Launches the 'Handbook of Australian Animal Cruelty Law'

The first book to examine Australian animal cruelty laws presents a significant blow to the Federal Government's claim that Australia is a 'world leader' in animal welfare.

Heralded as the most comprehensive law book to examine Australian animal cruelty legislation, Handbook of Australian Animal Cruelty Law will assist legal professionals to decipher convoluted and at-times contradictory state and federal laws, as well as to effectively represent and prosecute animal cruelty cases in Australia.

Written by Animals Australia's Legal Counsel Dr Malcolm Caulfield, the book also clearly demonstrates that rather than provide protection for animals — exemptions, defences and inconsistencies in current legislation permit cruel treatment to millions of animals in Australia — particularly in factory farms and the live export industry.

The new book has been provided to all law libraries, Departments of Agriculture, State Government Animal Welfare managers, and RSPCAs across the country. Animals Australia is delighted to announce that subsequent popularity of the handbook has led to a reprint to meet high demand.
