Get ready to rally!

Get ready to rally!

4 August 2011 Have your say

Sunday August 14 will be a day to remember as thousands of caring Australians come together to support legislation to end live animal export, and rally together for a live export free future!

So heads up if you're in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra or Hobart: your city needs you now to help make your rally the biggest and best it can be! Help give the loudest possible voice to animals destined to be killed in countries where they risk extreme brutality in Australia's cruellest trade. Even if you are unable to attend a rally on August 14, you can still play an important role in helping to promote the event in your city.

live export rally flyerHelp distribute rally flyers for your city!

We need every pair of helping hands to get the word out locally. Print rally flyers for your city and ask local shops and cafes if they would be willing to display them in their window or shop counter. Posting flyers to local noticeboards, sticking them on the fridge at work, and passing them out to friends are also great ways to spread the word.

Preparing for the big day

Check our national rally page for the time and venue for your city. You won't want to miss any of the inspiring speakers (or entertainment), so make sure you arrive in good time for the start of your rally, and be aware that parking may be very limited. Please bring hats / water bottles to outdoor events. In the meantime, click here to see where your MP and state senators stand on live exports and ask them to represent you and vote for the bills to end live export.

Banners

Some banners and placards will be provided, but if you're crafty and want to add some personal flair, here are some tips and ideas for making your own:

  • Keep your message short and snappy (more chance it will be read)
  • Keep on topic (while Animals Australia runs many varied and equally important campaigns, this event has one strategic goal. Please respectfully keep all slogans specific to the issue of live export)
  • Remember children will be present (please keep language clean and be mindful that distressing images could upset children)
  • Design your own. Here are some ideas for slogans to get you started:
    • Ban Live Export
    • Live export: Australia's shame
    • Ships of shame
    • We are their voice!
    • You can't say you didn't know. Ban Live Export
    • Vote NO to cruelty
    • Keep jobs in Australia
    • Live Export - slashing throats and slashing jobs
    • 'Stop the boats'
    • 'The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it treats its animals' - Gandhi
    • If NZ can ban live export, so can we!
  • Or, download and print a pre-designed banner. Here are some we prepared earlier:

Cor: Nominate Lyn White for Australian of the Year Friday, 2 September 2011 at 7:25pm
I've just nominated Lyn White for Australian of the Year. Anyone else wanting to do the same can do so by going to www.australianoftheyear.org.au . Nominations are only open for a few more hours. They close later tonight (midnight on the Friday 2nd of September).
b thuez: Ban Thursday, 18 August 2011 at 3:09pm
Despite the sad outcome (no ban), hopefully people are going to keep fighting till this ends. The images made public were so sickening and disturbing. I cannot believe that this kind of murder trade doesn't shock people as much as boat people. Every time the news is on, it is always about boat people. At least these people are not going to be chopped up alive- I think the priorities may need to change, animal welfare is important and no less important than respect towards humans.
ann farrugia: great rally Tuesday, 16 August 2011 at 8:18pm
i kept reading how people wer writing "sorry cant make it to the rally but will b there in spirit" i was so angry  to read crap like that so i thought there is no way i was going to be like these fake animal carers,,so i set my alarm and made sure i was at the rally by 10.30am and mind you i live 2hrs away and made it at the rally by 10.35. i was so happy to see so many supporters, thanks to all the real animal careres and that you are. now lets see if the government are the same careres.
Naomi: Rally photos Monday, 15 August 2011 at 7:39pm
I was at the rally in Adelaide yesterday & really happy to see so many people there to support banning live export.  I checked my emails & saw the photos of the rallies around the country & cried.  With or without the media, there are thousands of us who are standing up for defenseless animals.  I will look at these photos if I feel disillusioned in the future - I hope I don't have cause to feel that way - but if I do, these photos will continue to inspire me with  the thousands of people who share my heartbreak at the suffering of these animals & continue to fight on until this most evil trade is banned.  When live export is banned I will look at these photos with the utmost respect & appreciation for every single compassionate heart that contributed in whatever way they could.

Michelle: Speak up for the animals that can't! Friday, 12 August 2011 at 3:52pm
I am unable to attend on sunday as i have to work, but i am disappointed i cannot be there for the animals. I hope that lots of people turn up no matter what the weather is. We all have to come together and keep the pressure up and end this disgusting practice permanently. I will be thinking of the rally and be there in spirit with all you wonderful people.
Sylvanna Scott: Stop the Live Exports Friday, 12 August 2011 at 8:24am
Lets all stand together with Lyn White RSPCA and her supporters with determination and love for our animals and ban these live exports once and for all.
Sheila (shishi) Morrison (Perth): People power! Be at the Rally August 14th & Let's Ban Live Export! Friday, 12 August 2011 at 6:23am
This barbaric practise of transporting Australian animals to third world e.g. Indonesia - where there are ZERO animal welfare laws, is Australia's shame and must cease!  Come on, we are better than this.  New Zealand banned live export 4 years ago, they export chilled meat pnly.
It's time for Australia to step up, keep the jobs here & do this better!
Hoping for a huge turn out on Sunday all over Australia, my thanks & love to all who care enough to give up their time & face the truth.
Andrew Ellison: Live export is cruel & evil Friday, 12 August 2011 at 12:02am
I am absolutely certain that nothing is going to change in relation to the re-introduction of live export with its so called new set of rules to ensure our animals are treated humanly. If it continnues our animals will just continue to suffer harendous torture and pain beyond comprehension. Our leaders have got what it takes to stop this evil scenario as there are always options & alternatives available .Other countries in the world have proved it can be done.So whats so different about Australia.

carol maroun: Fight Harder Thursday, 11 August 2011 at 11:48pm
I am a baby boomer, we fought hard and strong to stop fighting in Vietnam and Ban the Bomb in the 60s and 70s. Hopefully we will win this war of cruelty, if we dont we must keep on fighting and never let them forget who we are and what we stand for. I would like to challenge all BABY BOOMERS to be there on Sunday and show the way we did it , help the young people to fight and win. There will be some of the best people in NSW there on Sunday, lets all, young and not so young pitch in and  fight to win.  This is for our country*s  animals. Just do it.
christy: ashamed to be australian Thursday, 11 August 2011 at 10:45pm
please everyone try to go to the rally and let them see the numbers.  let`s not miss this opportunity to show that "right is might!"
Diana Pugh: 'Love What You Eat!' Thursday, 11 August 2011 at 10:31pm
There is no excuse for outright cruelty!!  We need to speak up for all voiceless vulnerable animals. They sacrifice their lives so that humans can 'live'. The very least they deserve is "Respect" and a quick painless death. Simple just 'Love what you Eat!!!'
Di: FLYERS Thursday, 11 August 2011 at 6:33pm
It's hard in Dandenong being full of immigrants but i went ahead and did it ,I put some banners up at the Bus stop across from the Dandenong Market it's packed out on market day ...I'm heading out soon to hit the hot spots again and stick a few more flyers up.. and i have manage to get 10 people to attend the rally with me...
Pamela Hayes: Chris Back in panic mode Thursday, 11 August 2011 at 6:22pm
It was a last ditch effort by a man (Chris Back) who's brother happens to work in the cattle industry, to retain the outmoded status quo. Talk about 'grasping at straws'.
carole poole: Abolish live exports NOW!! Thursday, 11 August 2011 at 4:06pm
Can't begin to imagine the fear these poor beasts must feel as they are hearded onto the ships....thankfully they have no knowledge of the pain and mistreatment they are to suffer in the hands of cold and heartless people once they reach their country of destination. I realise people have always eaten meat, and always will, but humane and pain free methods MUST be used, it is our duty, these are our animals, amd if nothing else, we owe them this much.
Caroline Webster: Stop Live Snimal export Thursday, 11 August 2011 at 1:34pm
You may choose to look away but you can never ever say you didn't see it.    william Wilberforce
RUTH REES: BAN LIVE EXPORT NOW! Wednesday, 10 August 2011 at 10:46pm
We Australians should hang our heads in shame at the total disregard our politicians and cattle producers show by allowing our animals to be tortured and abused in this cruel trade.
BAN LIVE EXPORT NOW!
