'Hoax' claims shut down

'Hoax' claims shut down

11 August 2011 Have your say

What lengths will live export lobbyists go to to defend the cruel trade? You'll be amazed.

Unable to defend the abuse dealt out to so many Australian animals as seen on Australia's most respected current affairs program Four Corners, Senator Chris Back has attempted to suggest that Animals Australia's recent Indonesian investigation was 'staged'.

The claims were made during the Federal Senate Inquiry into the animal welfare practices in the live export industry on Wednesday August 10, seemingly in an attempt to deflect proceedings from the issue of serious animal welfare concerns in importing countries, which Animals Australia has been instrumental in exposing over the past eight years.

Animals Australia immediately released a statement refuting the outrageous allegations.

Respected Four Corners journalist Sarah Ferguson also published a response, labelling the allegations 'baseless'.

While some politicians insist on playing political games with the welfare of animals, caring Australians remain resolute in their opposition to the unconscionable cruelty of live animal export.

Show your solidarity for millions of animals who have suffered needlessly in this indefensible trade by joining thousands of other Australians at the Ban Live Export national rally on Sunday August 14. This is a day for all Australians against animal cruelty who want a kinder future free from live export. Click here for times and locations in your city. We hope to see you there!

Ruth Weston: It is just dreadful Friday, 16 September 2011 at 10:44am
I'm sure the people on this site are like me and wake in the night with those terrible pictures on 4 corners in your mind.  I just cannot get away from it.

The more you see on this site the worse I think human behaviour is.

Never into cooking shows - but now I couldn't watch one - cutting up animals ugh.
Hazel Evans: Rubbing our noses in it!! Wednesday, 14 September 2011 at 3:04pm
Talk about rubbing our noses in it. We have Wellards bragging about sending the largest consignment of cattle ever to Indonesia. 6,000 cattle left Qld yesturday with a further 60,000 being picked up in Fremantle en-route. What are they trying to do? Get as many over there in a hurry, incase the wheels fall off the bus again. COME ON YOU W.A PEOPLE GET DOWN TO THE DOCKS, AND SHOW THEM WE HAVEN'T GONE AWAY!! THE CATTLE NEED US, AND WE NEED TO KEEP THE PRESSURE ON. PLEASE!!

Moonie: Here's Hoping! Tuesday, 13 September 2011 at 2:19am
Lets hope the debate in caucus later today delivers a positive outcome - for the passing of Tony Zappia's motion for the 'prohibition of live export to all destinations unless there is a guarantee that these animals will be stunned unconscious prior to slaughter'. If passed, at least it will be a step in the right direction to reducing the unnecessary suffering of millions of animals sent to overseas destinations in the live export trade.

I'm looking forward to the day that this awful trade ends. For too many years I have watched our federal government (of different political persuasions) display an apathetic attitude to this horrendous trade. It's time for a dramatic change - one where our morals have greater merit than our lust for the quick buck!

Cor: Nominate Lyn White for Australian of the Year Thursday, 1 September 2011 at 3:16am
When I saw the 4 Corners footage I cried for the suffering of all of those animals, and for all of the countless ones that had gone before them; and I am still crying. I have felt so ashamed that Australia was allowing animals to be so horrendously treated. In fact, for the first time in my life I felt ashamed to be Australian. But when I saw the work that Lyn White is tirelessly doing to help the animals, I was able again to feel proud to be Australian. Lyn White is an inspiration for a better world and that is why I believe that she deserves to be our next "Australian of the Year". I am going to nominate Lyn White for "Australian of the Year" and I urge other Australians to do the same.

Nominations can be submitted by going to www.australianoftheyear.org.au . The closing date for nominations has been extended until midnight on the 2nd of September (this Friday).

Hazel Evans: ADELAIDESHEEP BEING RE-LOADED!! Tuesday, 30 August 2011 at 6:14pm
Today's news show that the sheep that were off loaded from the Al Messiah will be re-loaded. These poor creature will be used for blood - letting during the Festival of Eid. ABHORRANT TREATMENT AWAITS THERE ANIMALS!!.. PLEASE ADELAIDE GET DOWN TO WHERE THE SHEEP ARE AND THE WHARF AND PROTEST YOUR HEARTS OUT. THIS MUST NOT BE ALLOWED!!!
Hazel Evans: The Al Messiah Friday, 26 August 2011 at 3:00am
This is the difference. Saw a TV documentary on a ship involved in Live Export of cattle. Well you have never seen anything like it. It was so modern and clean, I thought it was one of the P&O fleet. There were people going through the cattle demonstrating how wonderfully well these creatures were cared for, pat pat on the head of the closest Brahman. It was truly something no different than the Love Boat. It was explained throughout this journey how the cattle were accounted for health wise and feed wise. How they had compturised systems ensuring all the animals recieved care that was equivalent to to what you'd expect at Buckingham Palace.... the final straw of nausea came when the 'yard boy' or whatever his title was, said, 'these are our babies'. NOW we are presented with the Al Messiah, a broken down old car transporter with 67000 sheep crammed in like sardines, and 100's deseased and dying around them. This is a true and accurate reflection of live export.
Hazel Evans: Bob Katter Thursday, 25 August 2011 at 12:28am
Bob Katter (aka Complete Idiot) as most will know is firmly opposed to banning live export. Just listened to his brother Carl speech on a video in relation to gay marriages. Carl, who openly admits he is gay, spoke from his heart, explaining what it was like to be gay. He was calling on people to support his cause. His brother Bob he stated has said, 'Gay marriages need to be laughed at', how revolting is that!!! I bet he wishes he did not have a brother. This man Bob Katter is desperatly trying to get into major parliament, heaven help, not only live export if he does, but any other issue that lands in the lap of this narrow minded moron. HE IS A JOKE. PS: maybe his own  brother will be his demise Yah!
Lynclare: Remain steadfast and positive! Tuesday, 23 August 2011 at 1:11pm
Progress has been made.  Legislation to ban live exports has recently been debated in federal parliament for the first time. The temporary total ban on exporting cattle to Indonesia and subsequent more stringent export regulations have left the entire live export industry far more uncertain and less lucrative.  The current offloading of sheep in South Australia is undeniably tragic for the animals, but it is also yet more bad publicity and expense for the live exporters.  Public awareness of the inherent cruelty of live exports is more widespread than ever - nationally and internationally. The profit margins of those involved in the vile trade are being progressively eroded.  Eventually, there will come a point at which the live export industry will, all things considered, cease to be viable.

Animals Australia is an organisation of unimpeachable integrity.  They, and we caring Australians who support their work unreservedly, will never, ever give up. One day, Australia will follow New Zealand's lead and ban live exports. It WILL happen.

In the meantime, with an early election looking increasingly likely, we must refuse to give our precious votes to anyone who is not committed to ending animal cruelty.  Let's vote for Adam Bandt, Andrew Wilkie, Nick Xenophon, Rachel Siewert and candidates of their calibre.  As for the others - we simply don't vote them back in. Together we can literally take away the power of those who perpetuate cruelty and replace them with people who have the moral fibre and compassion to put decency before dollars.

Hazel Evans: THANKS ADELAIDE! Tuesday, 23 August 2011 at 2:06am
It is was so great to hear that the Adelaide people got out there and rallied at the dock where the sheep were off-loaded from the stricken ship. This is such good news as it shows we are not going to go away, which is what the government has excepted we will do, that we are going to take every opportunity to bring attention to this cruel vile trade until they listen to the voice of the people and end this trade permanently. THANKS ADELAIDE, I COULD KISS YOU ALL!!
Hazel Evans: MORE CR#P! Monday, 22 August 2011 at 12:42pm
This is what Warren Truss said, in regards to Tony Abott support of the protesting truck convoy to Canberra. 'He has a history of calling for a people's revolt'. This is Tony Abott Truss is talking about!! Yeh, Tony Abott certainly supported our revolt, didn't he? NOT! Why dont these people wake up and stop all the bull shitting and hood winking. That way they might get what they are after, more votes. To go into politics I'm sure they have some form of qualification in 'used car salesmanism' and training in 'unethics'. For goodness sake wake up to yourselves, the Trusses and Abotts of this world!!

More dreadful foorage of EU animals being transported to Turkey - some travel 2200 kms.  They wait in 40 degree hear.  The sooner humans are exterminated the better for the rest of the animal kingdom.  We are just awful.

Cindy: Instead of procastinating Sunday, 21 August 2011 at 4:26pm
What an awful bunch of wingers. Instead of rude comments sounding like ignorant fanatics- DO SOMETHING e.g. travel to those countries where you believe people are deliberately cruel to animals and teach them how to care. Screaming and abusing others when one is foolish to believe "lies" based on edited footage. All films, movies and reporters comments are not the complete story - everyone knows that. Put your mouthing off into useful  practise. Help the people to know better if that is true. Reading your comments shows you are worse than the ignorant doers, if they were actually cruel to the animals - after all it is more efficient to simply kill the animals quickly than gin around in a sloppy manner!

Tractor: You people are naive. Sunday, 21 August 2011 at 2:06pm
The legal system is no different from a slaughter house. People are lined up, legal aide is like the yardsman working to increase the kill rate. All the parasite lawyers are in there for what they can take from the victims.  Police and RSPCA are determined to get their kills to improve their kill ratio and satisfy the community lust for "Justice".  Perjury by prosecution witnesses is allowed as prosecution witnesses are never prosecuted as it might scare others away from giving evidence for the prosecution. The would then not work properly.
The Aztecs simply rounded people up and ripped their heats out while they were still beating.
That video was obviously staged for a good story.  The media are no different. They produce a story for public consumption by hook or by crook. Animals Australia must satisfy the lust of their members to be seen saving animals from cruelty so author's license helps satisfy member's lust. This is the way of the world so stop being so naive.

Ruth Weston: Where to now? Saturday, 20 August 2011 at 9:59pm
I have been racking my brains about what action to take now.  I have written to Julia Gillard and my own MP expressing my disgust at their inhumanity.  The more I watch this trade the more upset and distraught I feel about being so helpless to change things.

Do you think we should contact friends in overseas countries and get them to write to the Prime Minister?  Would it make any difference?  What do Animals Australia want us to do now to help apart from donations which is an obvious action.  I just know we need to keep up the momentum somehow.

I dread to think how Lyn and those at the coal face feel with only two votes to stop this terrible trade.

Colleen Maranda (Grayndler, NSW): Compassion without borders Saturday, 20 August 2011 at 4:57am
Ms Moore -- Surely your intelligence tells you  there should be no contest between human and animal life.  Your understanding  that, "human life is infinitely more precious than animal life" is seriously limited.  Maybe the result of incomplete religious teaching.

Every case of animal cruelty, neglect or exploitation is also crime against humanity because all life is sacred, interconnected and interdependent.  I agree with Pythagoras and Einstein on this because it's also what my own heart and mind conveys to me.

For too long, policies of greed and ignorance (through fear) have stalled human evolution by denying the universal law of compassion without borders, exception or excuse. For too long, the human race has been kept in a holding pattern of misery as natural consequence of the misery it inflicts on other lives sharing this planet.

People desperately need to wake up and take personal responsibility for respecting the higher laws of nature.  It's not that hard.  Young children know the truth (before this world corrupts their purity).
