- Don't buy 'caged eggs'. The cheaper price of caged eggs is reflected by the massive suffering that is endured to produce them. The average battery hen endures almost 30 stressful hours* of intense confinement to produce each and every caged egg. Opt for free-range or egg-free alternatives.
- All chicken products that aren't labelled 'free range' are factory farmed. The most effective thing you can do is to refuse to financially support this cruel system. NB. Free-range chickens are raised more humanely but are still slaughtered by the same method as factory-farmed chickens.
There are many cruelty-free alternatives. Delicious vegetarian and mockmeat options are now readily available in supermarkets. By choosing them, you are lodging your vote for a kinder world!
- Speak Out! If your local supermarkets and restaurants don’t provide a wide selection of vegetarian alternatives or stock/use free range chicken products, let them know that you will not support cruelty by purchasing factory farmed chicken, and that if they want your continued patronage you would like them to phase out factory-farmed produce in exchange for free-range and vegetarian alternatives.
- The biggest threat to industrialised animal cruelty is community awareness. Tell your family and friends about free Betty!
