Mitsubishi Driving Bluefin to Extinction

Help Protect Bluefin Tuna From Extinction

Commercial fishing causes immense suffering. As animals are dragged from depths many are crushed by the sheer weight of other animals caught in the same net. Many suffer from decompression - their swimming bladders explode and their eyes balloon out. If they survive this, then they are often left to suffocate to death on board fishing vessels.

Mitsubishi Driving Bluefin to Extinction

Mitsubishi is a multi billion dollar global conglomerate of over 400 companies, one of which appears to be committed to driving a species on the brink rapidly into extinction.

Mitsubishi owns 35-40% of the market for the Bluefin Tuna, which is listed as Critically Endangered, the highest risk category of the IUCN Red List. The worldwide catch of Bluefin is currently three times what scientists recommend for sustainability, yet Mitsubishi has been stockpiling up to 20,000 tons of the frozen fish while continuing to buy more.

The company claims this is to ensure supply meets demand when stocks are low, but it's estimated that Atlantic Bluefin Tuna will be extinct by 2012 unless we stop fishing them now.

While the price of a product gets higher the harder it is to find, Mitsubishi has been accused of deep freezing these fish to make an even bigger profit as the species gets ever closer to being completely wiped out.

Please help urge Mitsubishi to end the slaughter of Bluefin Tuna.

Take Action!
