Make ALL Supermarket Shelves Sow Stall Free

Sow stalls standing on last legs

Mother pigs, unable to turn around in restrictive sow stalls, bite cage bars in frustration, suffer depression and endure countless physical ailments. Coles has taken a major step toward improving their lives with a commitment to make their home brand pork products sow stall free by the end of 2014. Now it's time for other retail giants to make a similar commitment.

Make ALL Supermarket Shelves Sow Stall Free

You may have heard the good news today that supermarket giant Coles has committed to making its 'Coles Butcher' pork products sow stall free by the end of 2014. Coles' decision will help reduce needless suffering of mother pigs who are confined in tiny metal crates for months on end -- often for their entire pregnancies.

The announcement follows years of public awareness campaigning by Animals Australia, which has forced a consumer-driven shift away from the cruel devices. This was reflected recently by similar state government and industry announcements. Coles' recognition of the growing consumer objection to the use of cruel sow stalls sets an important precedent that should be followed by all supermarket chains.

Please help urge Woolworths, IGA and Franklins to follow Coles' lead and use their power to help end the suffering of mother pigs in sow stalls.

Take Action!
