All mothers deserve love. But, sadly, many animal mums in Australia and around the world live lives of deprivation and suffering. Dairy cows, laying hens, mother pigs and breeding dogs in puppy factories suffer enormously – valued not as individuals but only for what they produce.

At Bed & Broccoli, a cruelty-free bed and breakfast in beautiful regional Victoria, owners Nikki and Scott do things differently. Instead of being sent to slaughter when her 'productive' days were over, Squirty the retired (and rescued) dairy cow will get to live out her full life in peace at the Bed & Broccoli property, as a much-loved member of the family.

Squirty enjoys a range of delicacies in her adoptive home...

We think Mother's Day is a great opportunity to celebrate kindness to mums! With that in mind, how about doing something nice for a mum you know?

To go in the draw to win one of two Bed & Broccoli cookbooks, tell us through the form below which of these animal-friendly recipes from the book you’ll make for a mum you love... (Entries close 11.59pm Tuesday 28 April 2015.)
