The RSPCA has released shocking CCTV footage of a dog fighting for its life inside a garbage truck, west of Brisbane, as rubbish is crushed and more is piled on top.

The group hopes the vision, released via its Facebook page, will prompt people to call in with information on anyone responsible for the cruel act.

RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said their inspectors were called to the Willowbank landfill in Ipswich last week after a dog, now nicknamed Tippie, was found alive.

Mr Beatty said they suspected Tippie was thrown into the truck deliberately.

The footage shows Tippie forced to ride a swirling torrent of rubbish and debris as more rubbish is continually added.

"How he survived is nothing short of a miracle," Mr Beatty said.

"Everyone originally thought that he had been tied up and thrown in a bag, but it's now apparent that he was badly entangled in debris.

"It appears that he was hurled in with the bin contents and then whirled around with the rubbish as the crusher blade comes down again and again.

"No-one can believe he's still alive."

Tippie is being cared for by the RSPCA and the dog's owner has been visiting.

Mr Beatty said RSPCA Queensland called on anyone with information regarding the incident to contact their animal emergency hotline on 1300 264 625.
